Proteome Exploration Laboratory
The PEL is performing state-of-the-art research in mass spectrometry-based proteomics. We collaborate with California Institute of Technology scientists from various backgrounds (biology, chemistry, geosciences, engineering) as well as external researchers. By nature, the level of collaboration varies from project to project. However, to achieve best results, we encourage you to contact us as early as possible to delineate the best avenues for a particular project.
Download the current Sample Submission Form, fill it out, and email it to Prof. Tsui-Fen Chou. Include a description of the sample(s) that will be submitted to PEL, the goals of the analysis, and any special considerations for data analysis. If you would like to operate the LC-MS for your experiments then also take the time to reserve the intended instrument via Outlook.
New to PEL?
We work with a wide variety of researchers. Schedule a meeting with Prof. Tsui-Fen Chou to discuss the specifics of your project.
For users with intense proteomics projects, where proteomics is an integral and vital part of their project, a collaborative approach will be sought. The level of interaction varies from project to project and should be discussed with PEL. If desired and possible within the staff's current commitments, training to graduate students and postdocs in several aspects of MS-based proteomics (including sample preparation, sample analysis, data analysis and interpretation) will be offered. The vast majority of our users fall into this category.
For occasional users who will have a few samples analyzed we offer a fee-based service that will be operated on a first come first served basis. Should data from the PEL be published, an acknowledgement (and notification thereof) is kindly requested.
